Hyundai all set to revive the Hyundai Pony Concept Car in 2023

Pony Coupe Concept Car By Hyundai

The Ioniq 5 may be one of the most modern-looking cars, on the road, in 2022, but a prior Hyundai concept, the Pony Concept, significantly influences its appearance. It was designed for the 1974 Turin Motor Show but never built, but it served as inspiration for a number of futuristic-looking cars, including the Ioniq 5 EV, N Vision 74, and a reinvented concept car - but now Hyundai plans to build the original concept all over again.

To accomplish this, the team collaborates with GFG Style, a father-and-son duo created by Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro. 'The original Pony and Pony Coupe Concept were among those rare masterpieces that informed the designs of not just one but numerous production and concept vehicles, including our award-winning IONIQ 5 and eye-catching N Vision 74,' said Hyundai's EVP SangYup Lee. 'Because the original concept car no longer exists, we commissioned Giorgetto Giugiaro to reconstruct it in accordance with our design philosophy of "shaping the future with legacy."

'I designed the Hyundai Pony when I was still a young designer at the start of my career,' Giugiaro senior stated of the initial design. I was really proud to be in charge of designing a vehicle for a firm and country set to enter a very competitive global market. Now, I'm profoundly thrilled that Hyundai has asked me to reconstruct it for posterity and to commemorate the brand's history."

Despite being approved for production, the Pony Coupe never made it to Europe or North America. What's the reason? The project was halted in 1981 because of the global economic downturn. Then everything was pretty much the same as now.

It will premiere in the spring of 2023.
