This car maker issued an apology to 2.15 million customers in Japan whose personal data was public from November 6, 2013, to April 17, 2023.

According to the sources, the leaked data include the registered email address, navigation terminal number, vehicle's unique chassis, and the vehicle's location while registering.

In a given statement, a company mentioned that they had taken necessary steps to block access from outside and will continue conducting investigations on all cloud environments. Toyota also apologized for causing inconvenience and concern to customers' personal data.

Now the automaker is sending personal emails to the customer's registered email to apologize and notify the information. The company has also set up dedicated call centers to answer and resolve customers' related queries.

Toyota said the major reason for a big mistake from the company was improper explanation and thoroughness of data management practices. The data accessed by third parties will not be enough to identify customers, the carmaker highlighted in its statement.

The official statement mentioned that they hadn't noticed any secondary use of customer data by the third party or any copies remaining regarding customer information.
