Latest Update: Mahindra has been testing the 5 door Thar for a long time now. Recently too, its camouflaged test mule was spotted, revealing a number of interior details and features.

Key Hightlights
Mahindra is currently testing the Thar 5 door across the country. Moreover, it has been spied a number of times in the past few days, signaling towards an eminent launch. Although its official launch date is yet unknown, according to some media sources and rumors, we expect Mahindra to unveil it on Indian Independence Day 2024 i.e. 15th August. That's also due to Mahindra's previous track record of unveiling the 3 door Thar on India's Independence Day 2020.
Exterior & Design
Although the 5 door Thar has only been spotted in camouflaged version, it design is expected to be a bit different from the 3 door Thar. The changes are expected in the front grille, headlamp & taillamp unit, alloy design and front & rear bumpers.
Moreover, in the front, it is likely to get new LED headlamp units with different grille design. In the rear it might get the wiper and washer which are missing in the 3 door Thar.
Interior & Features
Inside the cabin, the 5 door Thar is likely to get new features that are not present in the 3 door Thar. These include, front central armrest, single pane sunroof, a full digital drivers display, new steering wheel design, a bigger 10.25 inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless charger, auto climate control AC, wireless android auto/apple carplay, LED lights, AdrenoX connected car tech, reverse camera, etc.
On the safety front, the new 5 door Thar might come with a metal hard top, 4 or 6 airbags, front parking sensors, etc. Also, there's a possibility of it getting level 2 ADAS tech with 1 camera + 1 radar configuration.
Engine & Transmission
On the powertrain front, we expect Mahindra to continue with the same 3 engine option including a 1.5 litre CRDe diesel, a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel and a 2 litre mStallion T-GDi petrol engine. Also, we expect it to continue with the same 6 speed manual and 6 speed torque converter auto gearbox option.
Segment & Rivals
The 5 door Thar will give a tough competition to the 5 door Maruti Jimny and the Force Gurkha 5 door.
Expected Price & Launch Date
Mahindra is highly likely to launch the new 5 door Thar on the 15th August i.e. India's Independence Day 2024.
On the pricing front, we expect Mahindra to place the 5 door Thar at a premium over the 3 door one. This means a price bump of 3 to 4 lakh is highly possible.
Thus we expect the new five door Thar to be priced between Rs 16 Lakh to Rs 22 Lakh (Ex-Showroom).
