The BMW F 450 GS marks a significant step for BMW Motorrad in India, offering an affordable multi-cylinder adventure motorcycle. Priced from Rs 4.7 lakh (ex-showroom), it is available in three variants: Base, Exclusive at Rs 4.9 lakh, and GS Trophy at Rs 5.3 lakh. The F 450 GS is produced in partnership with TVS Motor and is the first twin-cylinder ADV in this displacement and price segment.

Variants and Key Features

The Base and Exclusive variants come in Cosmic Black, while the GS Trophy variant features Racing Blue Metallic. The GS Trophy stands out with its ERC (Easy Ride Clutch), a feature unique in this segment. All variants have alloy wheels as standard, with no wire-spoke option or luggage rack, providing a clean look. The headlight design, inspired by the larger R 1300 GS, includes X-shaped LED DRLs and vertically stacked LED headlights.

Standard features on the Base variant include a 6.5-inch TFT screen, BMW's rotary dial, heated grips, adjustable levers, adjustable rear brake lever, 43 mm USD telescopic front forks, all-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, traction control, and 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. The ERC is not an automatic gearbox but an automatic clutch, reducing clutch use after starting the bike. Gear shifts remain manual, and the system cannot be switched off.

The F 450 GS uses a 420cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine with a 135-degree crank. It produces 48 bhp and 43 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The GS Trophy variant includes a quickshifter and ERC, delivering smooth and linear power. The bike accelerates from 0-100 km/h in under 6 seconds (speedometer indicated).

With a 14-litre fuel tank and a seat height of 845 mm, the F 450 GS weighs 178 kg. Ergonomics are upright, and the fully adjustable suspension can be tuned for rider preference. The suspension handles Indian roads well, and braking is strong, though a twin-disc front setup would enhance the premium feel.

Additional features include heated grips, a 6.5-inch TFT cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, and a Type-C USB port. The BMW Motorrad Connect app enables navigation and audio integration for rider and pillion helmets. The digital interface is consistent across all variants.

Market Position and Competition

The BMW F 450 GS is the most affordable twin-cylinder ADV and the only model in its class with an automatic clutch.
