Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based Nuvation Energy. The partnership aims to explore local manufacturing of high-voltage battery management systems (BMS) for grid-scale energy storage in India. The agreement was formalised during the 12th India Energy Storage Week 2026 in New Delhi.
Key Highlights
- Amara Raja and Nuvation Energy sign MoU for local battery management system manufacturing.
- Partnership targets grid-scale energy storage and commercial industrial applications in India.
- Amara Raja is expanding with a 16 GWh gigafactory and a 10 GWh BESS facility in Telangana.
Focus on Grid-Scale Energy Storage
The collaboration will initially target battery management systems for grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial (C&I) applications, and renewable energy integration. Nuvation Energy will provide its high-voltage BMS technology, while Amara Raja will contribute its manufacturing expertise. The goal is to develop products tailored to the Indian market's needs.
Battery management systems are essential for monitoring and protecting lithium-ion battery packs. They ensure safe operation, enhance performance, and extend battery life in large-scale energy storage installations. The companies believe this partnership will strengthen domestic capabilities as India’s demand for energy storage grows with increased renewable energy deployment.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Targets

India has set a goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030. This target will require significant grid-scale battery storage to support renewable energy integration. Amara Raja is expanding its lithium-ion manufacturing operations with a Rs 9,500 crore, 16 GWh gigafactory in Telangana. Research and development activities at ePositive Energy Labs support this expansion.
The company is also developing a 10 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility. This facility is expected to become operational later this year, according to Amara Raja. The partnership with Nuvation Energy will evaluate opportunities to manufacture high-voltage BMS platforms locally for the Indian market.
Nuvation Energy’s Technology Portfolio
Nuvation Energy specialises in battery management systems for grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial systems, aerospace, marine, and defence applications. Its BMS platforms can support systems operating at up to 1,500V DC. By combining this technology with Amara Raja’s manufacturing capabilities, the companies aim to deliver advanced solutions for India’s energy storage sector.
Dr Vikash Venkataramana, Chief Product Officer at Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, stated that the partnership provides access to globally validated technology. He said the companies plan to localise and scale these solutions for Indian conditions, supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
