Ducati unveils Desmo450 EDS Enduro Motorcycle for global markets in 2026
Ducati expands into the enduro segment with the new Desmo450 EDS, set for a global debut in 2026, blending racing DNA with off-road capability.

Ducati has introduced the Desmo450 EDS, its first modern enduro motorcycle, with sales starting in Europe from July 2026. The company plans to expand distribution to other global markets soon after. This new model builds on Ducati's motocross platform but has been extensively modified for enduro use, which demands different performance characteristics.
Key Highlights
- Ducati Desmo450 EDS launches in Europe from July 2026 with global rollout to follow
- 449.6cc single-cylinder engine redesigned for smoother enduro power and improved low-to-mid-rev performance
- The aluminum perimeter frame weighs under 9 kg and uses 11 parts for strength and low weight
- Showa suspension tuned with input from Antoine Meo offers 310mm front and 301mm rear travel
- Adaptive maintenance system updates service intervals based on real-time engine stress and riding conditions
Key Features and Technical Changes

The Ducati Desmo450 EDS uses a 449.6 cc single-cylinder engine with desmodromic valve timing. Ducati redesigned the engine to deliver smoother and more usable power for enduro riding. The EDS features a 42mm throttle body, which is smaller than the 44mm unit on the motocross version. It also has dedicated camshafts, a lower-compression piston, a special exhaust, and a heavier crankshaft and flywheel assembly. These changes help the motorcycle perform better at low and mid revs, which is essential for navigating rocks, climbs, and slow trail sections.
The motorcycle comes with six gears, each with enduro-specific ratios. The first gear is shorter to provide better control in technical terrain, while the sixth gear is longer for efficient riding during extended sessions. Ducati has also tuned the clutch to require less effort, which benefits riders during long rides or competitive enduro events.
Chassis, Suspension, and Protection

The Desmo450 EDS features an aluminum perimeter frame derived from the Desmo450 MX. Ducati changed the engine mounts to achieve the right stiffness for enduro riding. The frame weighs less than 9 kg and is constructed from 11 parts using cast, forged, and extruded sections. This approach keeps the weight low while maintaining strength and stiffness for demanding enduro conditions.
The suspension system was developed with Showa and tuned with input from enduro world champion Antoine Meo. The 49mm upside-down front fork offers 310mm of travel and uses softer springs than the motocross version. The rear monoshock provides 301mm of travel and operates through a progressive link. This setup helps absorb impacts from stones and roots while maintaining rider confidence in both slow and fast sections.
For protection, the EDS includes hand guards, engine guards, and reinforced clutch and alternator covers. The engine covers are made of aluminum, replacing the lighter magnesium covers found on the motocross model. This change addresses the higher likelihood of impacts from rocks and obstacles in enduro riding. The transparent 8.5-litre fuel tank allows riders to quickly check fuel levels.
Electronics and Maintenance

Riders can equip the Desmo450 EDS with Ducati’s racing kit at authorized workshops. The kit adds Ducati Traction Control tuned for enduro, launch control, engine brake control, two riding modes, and a quickshifter. The traction control system monitors rear wheel spin and can recognize when intervention is unnecessary, such as during jumps. Riders can configure these systems through the Ducati X-Link app.
The motorcycle includes an adaptive maintenance system that uses an algorithm to calculate engine stress in real time. It analyses usage and surface conditions, then updates the maintenance schedule via the X-Link app. Ducati states that piston replacement intervals can range from 90 to 120 hours, while full service intervals may vary between 180 and 240 hours, depending on wear and riding conditions.
