The Chery Jaecoo J5 EV features a boxy exterior design, projector headlights, a closed front grille, and active air vents. The SUV rides on 18-inch tyres with dual-tone alloy wheels. Inside, the vehicle offers a five-seat configuration, a vertically oriented 12.3-inch infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, and a 50W wireless charging pad.

Under the hood, the Jaecoo J5 EV uses a front-biased drivetrain powered by a 207 HP motor that delivers 288 Nm of torque. The 61 kWh battery provides a claimed range of 461 km on a single charge. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. It supports DC fast charging at up to 130 kW, allowing for quicker charging times.

Market Context and Competition

JSW Motors is preparing to introduce its first battery electric vehicles in India, excluding plug-in hybrids like the Jetour T2. Chery has been active in patenting both electric and hybrid vehicles for the Indian market. Meanwhile, BYD has made a notable entry, with models such as the Sealion 6 or Atto 2 PHEV appearing ready for launch.

The growing number of electric SUVs being tested and patented suggests that competition in the segment will intensify. JSW-Chery is expected to reveal its new products soon, aiming to offer strong options regardless of powertrain type. The Indian electric vehicle market is set for significant expansion as more manufacturers prepare to launch new models in the coming months.
