Meine Electric, an Indian deep-tech startup, has announced that its fast-charging iron-air battery has cleared independent validation by Customised Energy Solutions (CES). This validation supports the company’s claims about its battery’s ability to provide daily-cycling, long-duration renewable energy storage.
Key Highlights
- Meine Electric's iron-air battery is validated by CES for daily-cycling long-duration energy storage.
- Battery charges in six hours and discharges over 18 hours under independent laboratory testing.
- Technology operates at a levelised cost below $0.05 per kWh or about Rs 5 per kWh.
- Meine Electric is the first Asia-Pacific company and third globally to work on iron-air LDES.
Independent Validation and Testing
CES, a US-based energy services and technology company, conducted the laboratory validation. CES is also the parent organisation of the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA). The testing took place at the CES Battery Laboratory. Two iron-air electrochemical cells from Meine Electric underwent assessment under a structured protocol.
The tests evaluated electrochemical performance, capacity retention, and operational stability. The protocol included a duty cycle of six hours of charging followed by 18 hours of discharging.
Meine Electric claims this is the world’s first fast-charging iron-air battery system designed for long-duration energy storage (LDES). The company states the battery can charge in six hours and discharge over 18 hours. This daily-cycling capability distinguishes it from other iron-air batteries, which typically focus on multi-day storage applications.
Technology and Industry Context

Iron-air battery chemistry has traditionally faced limitations due to long charge cycles. Existing global solutions, such as those from Form Energy in the US and Ore Energy in Europe, are designed for multi-day storage with discharge durations of up to 100 hours. Meine Electric’s Fast Charge Long Discharge (FCLD) technology, developed using proprietary electrode processes and system architecture, targets daily-cycling use instead of multi-day storage. The company cites a DataM Intelligence market report to highlight this distinction.
Founded in 2023 by Mohan and Stuti Kakkar, Meine Electric describes itself as the first company in the Asia-Pacific region and the third globally to work on iron-air long-duration energy storage. The startup positions its daily-cycling batteries as a complement to lithium-ion storage solutions. According to Meine Electric, its technology operates at a levelised cost of storage below $0.05 per kWh, or about Rs 5 per kWh.
Industry Recognition and Future Plans
Stuti Kakkar, co-founder and COO, said the company views iron-air technology as a foundational component for renewable energy grids. She cited industry demand for lower costs and higher reliability. Meine Electric believes the CES validation adds third-party credibility to its technology roadmap. The company is now preparing for larger-scale demonstrations and pilot deployments.
Meine Electric has received industry recognition, including the National Startup Award 2026 and the Nasscom Emerge 50 Award. These accolades were mentioned in the company’s statement. The company continues to focus on advancing its iron-air battery technology for renewable energy storage applications.
