MG Motor India has been testing the Astor AI on Indian roads for quite some time now. Finally, the day has dawned when the vehicle will get an official launch in India. This compact SUV with new Drive AI technology will debut in India on August 18, 2021.
MG Astor AI is a petrol version of the MG ZS EV and will emerge as an ICE counterpart. Initial reports suggest that the Astor AI will be the most affordable MG vehicle in India. Besides, it could land up as the least expensive car in India to offer AI technology. The MG Astor AI introduces the concept of Car as a Platform (CAAP) software built on innovative technologies like Blockchain, AI, and ML.
The MG Astor AI will feature the AI Inside badging similar to the Inter Inside badge seen in the previous MG Hector SUV. In addition, Reliance Jio has jumped into the fray by signing an agreement to provide a 4G connectivity suite through an e-SIM along with IoT in the Astor AI to access infotainment and telematics real-time.
As far as its engine is concerned, the MG Astor will come equipped with the 1.5L 4-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine capable of delivering 141bhp power and 240Nm torque. Moreover, this engine will witness a pairing with a 6-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission system.
Other exciting features include LED lamps, DRLs, roof-mounted spoiler, dual-tone alloy wheels, a digital console with i-Smart Connect, an 8-inches touchscreen info system, sunroof, etc.
With this launch, the MG Astor AI enters the compact SUV segment as it offers direct competition to Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. We await more details on the launch, especially about pricing and other offers.
