Tata Motors’ Success in 2024: Balancing Growth with Market Dynamics

Tata Motors reported a slight increase in passenger vehicle (PV) sales for December 2024, reaching 44,230 units, a rise of 490 units or 1.12% compared to December 2023. While domestic sales showed positive growth, export volumes experienced a significant drop, declining to 59 units from 205 units, a dramatic decrease of 71.22%. Total PV sales, including domestic and exports, stood at 44,289 units, marking a year-on-year growth of 1.41%.

The electric vehicle (EV) segment continued to thrive, with 5,562 units sold in December 2024. This reflects an increase of 556 units or 11.11% compared to the previous year, signaling a growing consumer demand for EVs in Tata's lineup.

In Q4 2024, Tata Motors' domestic PV sales reached 139,424 units, an increase of 1,549 units or 1.12% year-on-year. However, export volumes dropped by 30.17%, falling to 405 units compared to 580 units in Q4 2023.

Impact of FAME II Subsidy Expiration on Fleet EV Sales

The expiration of the FAME II subsidy influenced fleet EV sales, but Tata's emphasis on private buyers helped cushion the impact, maintaining overall stability in the segment.

Strong Annual Performance in CY24

For the calendar year 2024 (CY24), Tata Motors recorded total PV sales of 565,000 units, solidifying its position with four consecutive years of growth. The SUV segment continued to dominate, driven by popular models like the Punch, which sold 200,000 units during CY24.

CNG vehicles emerged as a significant growth driver, with sales surpassing 120,000 units, reflecting a remarkable 77% increase compared to the previous year. The cost-effectiveness of CNG models has made them a popular choice among consumers.
