Tyre Maintenance

Efficient maintenance of your tyres is as essential as maintenance of other parts of your Car. An unfit tyre can often cause troubles like regular punctures and even an untimely failure, and making an investment in a brand new set of tyres may be an expensive deal for someone. We are going to provide a list of tips you need to follow to maximize your tyre's life and stay out of any hassles during rides.

1. Regular Tyre Check-up

To prevent any potential damage to your tyres you need a regular inspection scheduled for your tyres. You need to check the tyre walls from different angles and look for any irregularities like cuts, bruises and cracks. Also don't forget to check the inner facing part too. Cracks can be a result of stones, glass or different obstructions on the street and they can get wider over the years and bring about a tyre failure. While you are at it, you can also inspect the rims, as a broken rim also can cause tyre failure over a time period and needs to get replaced as quickly as possible. If you observe a nail embedded to your tubeless tyre however it does not impact the pressure of the tyre, you no longer need to pull it out as this can purpose the air to escape, but get it repaired ASAP.

2. Tyre tread condition

Tyres have an indicator mark to check the tread conditions through a small arrow at the outer wall of the tyre. If you observe the arrow at the tread face, you may locate the damage to your tyre tread at the very surface. If the outermost layer of the tyre is in contact with the tread wear indicator, it’s an indication for you to get a replacement. Any tyre with depth less than 2mm left needs to get replaced as quickly as possible.

3. Optimum Tyre pressure

It is necessary for a vehicle owner to check their tyre pressure on a weekly basis, and the spare tyre is not an exception for this. This is essential as flawed inflation of tyres can bring about wears and tears on your tyres and also, an increased risk of bursting of tyre while driving on a highway. To confirm the correct tyre pressure, check the owner's manual provided with the car.

4. Repositioning Tyres

Repositioning your tyres is one way to deal with unequal wear and tears to your tyres. By changing their positions you can ensure equal stress distribution and hence increase their lifespan. It is recommended to change your tyre positions after every 10,000km.

5. Perfect balancing

The alignment of your wheels depends on calibration of suspension and levelling of tie-rods. Uneven wear and tears to your tyre and steering vibrations can be a result of faulted alignment of your car's suspension. If your tyres are not perfectly balanced it can direct the stress to particular tyres and increase risk of tyre failure. To prevent this get your suspensions and tie-rods perfectly aligned.
