Nearly 1,000 Vehicles were Denied Entry due to Worn-out Tyres on Samruddhi Expressway.

Maharashtra Road Safety Cell Takes Action Against Vehicles with Worn-out Tyres on Samruddhi Expressway

According to the latest data shared by Maharashtra's Road Safety Cell, a significant number of vehicles have been prohibited from entering the Samruddhi Expressway due to worn-out tyres. Between April 1 and June 30 of this year, approximately 1,000 vehicles were denied entry on the expressway, a 601-kilometre stretch from Nagpur to Nashik. The decision to deny entry to these vehicles was taken to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of motorists.

RTO Offices Collaborate to Counsel Motorists and Enforce Regulations

Teams from eight Regional Transport Offices (RTO) located in Amravati, Aurangabad, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Shrirampur, and Nashik actively collaborated to address the issue of worn-out tyres on the Samruddhi Expressway. These teams collectively counselled 21,053 motorists, raising awareness about the importance of maintaining proper tyres and the associated risks of driving with worn-out ones.

Speeding and Other Violations Also Addressed

While worn-out tyres were a primary focus of the RTO teams, they also dealt with other traffic violations on the Samruddhi Expressway. A total of 234 motorists were caught for speeding, with 77 of them detected through a computerized mechanism installed along the route. The expressway has a design speed of 150 kmph, but the speed limit is set at 120 kmph for safety reasons.

Implementation of Interceptor Vehicles and Computerized Systems

Bharat Kalaskar, the deputy commissioner of road safety, explained that the RTO teams utilized interceptor vehicles and a computerized system to carry out their actions effectively. The computerized system detected speeding vehicles and automatically blocked them, resulting in their apprehension at toll plazas. Interceptor vehicles were also employed to identify and stop violators at the toll plazas.

Focus on Other Violations

Although speeding is a significant cause of accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway, data indicates that RTO teams have prioritized addressing other traffic violations as well. A total of 3,169 motorists faced action for "no parking" violations, 2,204 for "lane cutting," and 1,043 for not having reflective tapes that enhance the vehicle's visibility to other motorists during nighttime.

CarBike360 Says:

The Maharashtra Road Safety Cell, in collaboration with various RTO offices, has taken proactive measures to address the issue of worn-out tyres on the Samruddhi Expressway. By counselling motorists and denying entry to vehicles with worn-out tyres, the authorities aim to enhance road safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

Additionally, the implementation of interceptor vehicles and computerized systems has enabled efficient enforcement of speed limits and other traffic regulations. The data also highlights the RTO teams' efforts to tackle other violations such as no parking, lane cutting, and lack of reflective tapes, further contributing to overall road safety on the expressway.
