Tata Motors has launched the Sierra EV in India, reviving the iconic Sierra nameplate in an electric SUV format. The Sierra EV starts at Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Pure variant, while the Pure S variant is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh. Both variants use a 63 kWh battery pack and offer a claimed range of up to 565 km. The Pure S variant commands a premium of Rs 1.2 lakh over the Pure trim, raising questions about the value of the upgrade.

Design and Exterior Styling

Both Pure and Pure S variants feature a distinctive electric SUV design with a body-colored trim, a full-width connected LED DRL, and LED projector headlights. The Tata logo sits at the center of the front fascia. Both variants also include a muscular bumper, faux silver skid plate, matte black inserts, and a lower air dam. The Pure S variant adds vertically stacked LED foglights for a unique touch.

From the side, both variants have aero-optimized 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, a squared-off rear window, a blacked-out rear pillar and ORVMs, a black roof insert, and black body cladding.

The Pure S variant adds roof rails for a more rugged look. At the rear, both trims feature a flat tailgate with connected LED taillights, ‘Sierra.ev’ lettering, a chunky bumper, gloss black cladding, an integrated spoiler, and a shark fin antenna. Both variants are available in Pristine White, Coorg Clouds, and Pure Grey. Brighter color options are exclusive to higher trims.

Interior and Features

The cabin of both variants has a minimalistic theme with a dual-tone color scheme and fabric upholstery. The seats and door pads use a light brown and black palette. Both trims feature a layered dashboard and a dual-screen setup for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

The Pure S variant adds a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof and a parcel tray for added privacy. Standard features on both trims include a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-speaker audio system, an Amazon Alexa voice assistant, an electric tailgate, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, steering-mounted controls, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, paddle shifters for multi-mode regen, automatic headlights, electrically adjustable ORVMs, drive modes, rear window sunshades, and connected car technology. The Pure S also offers auto-folding ORVMs and a front trunk (frunk).

Safety and Battery Specifications

Both variants come equipped with 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill hold and descent control, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, rollover mitigation, vehicle dynamic control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Pure S adds front parking sensors, front fog lights with cornering function, and an acoustic vehicle alerting system. The 63 kWh battery pack supports 110 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 20 to 80 percent charge in 25 minutes. The Pure S variant adds vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging support.

Pricing and Variant Overview

The Tata Sierra EV is available in five trims: Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered A. The Pure and Pure S variants are the entry-level options, both powered by the 63 kWh battery. The larger battery pack is reserved for higher trims.

The Pure variant is priced at Rs 18.79 lakh, while the Pure S costs Rs 19.99 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom pan-India. The Rs 1.2 lakh price difference between the Pure and Pure S variants is significant. Both variants share most design elements and features, but the Pure S adds a few enhancements for the extra cost.
