Tata Motors has updated its compact hatchback, the Tiago, introducing a refreshed design and a revised variant lineup. The new Tiago now offers enhanced technology and features. Its price ranges from Rs 4.70 lakh to Rs 8.55 lakh (introductory). The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, a segment-above rival, is priced nearly Rs 50,000 less than the top-end Tiago.

The Tata Tiago is slightly wider and taller than the Grand i10 Nios. However, the Hyundai hatchback is marginally longer and has a 50 mm longer wheelbase. The Tiago now offers a dual-tone paint option with a black roof, available only on the top Creative Plus trim. The Grand i10 Nios also has select variants with a black roof.

Both models feature modern lighting technology. The Tiago comes with auto multi-reflector LED headlights and a follow-me-home function. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios offers auto-projector headlights with the same function. Both cars have body-colored bumpers with chrome garnish, and the Hyundai features a connecting light bar in the center.

Tiago’s interior now includes a fabric-wrapped upper dashboard, chrome-finished inside door handles, and a front center armrest with storage. It features an analog instrument cluster with a central MID, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, and multiple USB charging ports, including a 65W fast-charging USB Type-C port at the front and rear.

The Tata Tiago also offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering-mounted controls, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, a rear parking camera with guidelines, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Grand i10 Nios includes a dashcam, boot lamp, footwell illumination, roof rails, and semi-leatherette upholstery. It also features a rear parking camera and electronic stability control. However, it does not offer a 360-degree camera or a 10.25-inch touchscreen like the Tiago.

Powertrain and Transmission Options

Both hatchbacks use a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. They offer similar transmission options, including manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) for the Tiago. Both models also provide a dual-cylinder CNG setup.

The Tata Tiago produces 75.5 PS and 95 Nm in CNG mode, while the Grand i10 Nios delivers 69 PS and 95 Nm in CNG mode. Tata offers the CNG version with both manual and AMT, but Hyundai’s CNG variant comes only with a manual transmission.

The updated Tata Tiago features a refreshed exterior and interior, offering amenities usually found in higher segments. It now competes closely with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The Tiago stands out with its larger touchscreen, 360-degree camera, and CNG-AMT combination.

The Grand i10 Nios, known for its reliability, provides useful features like a dashcam and boot lamp. Both models remain dependable choices in the hatchback segment. Alternatives include the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which offers a spacious cabin, essential features, and a range of powertrain options.
