Chery Automobile, a Chinese car manufacturer, has patented several vehicles in India. Most of these vehicles will be sold under the JSW MG Motors brand. Among the newly patented models is the Lepas L6, a product of Chery's sub-brand Lepas. Lepas is a recent entrant in the automotive market.
Key Highlights
- Chery patents Lepas L6 in India under JSW Motors
- Lepas L6 offers hybrid and electric powertrain options
- Hybrid variant claims up to 700 miles or 1126.5 km range
- The electric version features 67 kWh battery and 270-mile or 434.5 km range
- India launch expected to follow other JSW-Chery models
Powertrain Options Detailed
The Lepas L6 will offer two distinct powertrain options. The first is a 1.5-litre hybrid engine featuring Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology. This hybrid system provides a combined range of up to 700 miles, or 1,126.5 kilometers, as measured under the WLTC cycle. The second option is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) configuration. The BEV version uses a 67 kWh battery pack, which delivers a range of 270 miles, or 434.5 kilometers, on a single charge.
Design and Market Launch Plans
The Chery Lepas L6 shares visual similarities with the Tiggo 8 series, although it features a redesigned front end. The model is scheduled to launch in the United Kingdom in the fourth quarter of 2026. The India-spec version of the Lepas L6 is expected to follow the approach taken with other JSW-Chery collaborations.
JSW-Chery Collaboration in India
Other vehicles offered by the JSW-Chery partnership in India include the Jetour T2, iCAR V23, Tiggo 8 series, Jaecoo J5 and J7, and the T1TP pickup. The Lepas L6 is likely to join this lineup, reflecting Chery's strategy to expand its presence in the Indian market through multiple sub-brands and models.

CarBike 360 Says
With the Lepas L6 now patented in India, Chery and JSW appear to be laying the groundwork for a serious NEV push with both hybrid and all-electric choices. If launched here, the L6 could give Indian buyers a tech-loaded alternative to established mid-size SUVs, combining long range, rapid charging and modern styling in a single, future-ready package.
