Ducati Desmo250 MX debuts with 44.5 HP engine for MX2 racing
Ducati enters the MX2 segment with the new Desmo250 MX, a high-performance motocross bike delivering 44.5 HP and engineered for competitive racing dynamics.

Ducati has expanded its motocross range with the introduction of the Desmo250 MX, nearly a year after launching the Desmo450 MX. The new Desmo250 MX is designed for the MX2 category and features a completely new 249cc single-cylinder engine. This engine produces 44.5 HP at 12,500 rpm and 28.3 Nm of torque at 8,800 rpm. It uses Ducati’s signature desmodromic valve actuation, enabling the engine to reach up to 15,000 rpm.
Key Highlights
- Ducati launches Desmo250 MX for MX2 category with 44.5 HP and 28.3 Nm from a 249 cc engine
- The bike features an aluminum frame, Showa suspension, Brembo brakes and Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tyres
- Electronics include engine maps, traction and launch control, all configurable via Ducati X-Link app
- A predictive maintenance system calculates engine stress and adjusts service intervals automatically
- European sales start July 2026 with North American deliveries in August; India launch not confirmed
The Desmo250 MX shares its chassis, electronics, and overall design with the larger Desmo450 MX. The engine uses the same 81mm bore and 48.4mm stroke as each cylinder of the Panigale V4 R’s 999cc engine, but it has been developed specifically for motocross applications. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a 5-speed gearbox equipped with an upshift quickshifter.
Chassis and Suspension Details
The Desmo250 MX features an aluminum perimeter frame and an aluminum swingarm. The bike is equipped with fully adjustable Showa suspension that uses Kashima coating for improved durability. Ducati has tuned the suspension specifically for the 250cc model. Braking is handled by Brembo calipers and Galfer discs, with a 260mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear. The motorcycle has a claimed dry weight of 103 kg, excluding fuel, and comes fitted with Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tyres.
Electronics and Maintenance Features

The electronics suite on the Desmo250 MX includes two engine maps, three levels of traction control, three levels of launch control, and two levels of engine brake adjustment. All these settings can be configured via Ducati’s X-Link app. The bike also features Ducati’s predictive maintenance system, which uses an algorithm to calculate engine stress based on riding conditions and adjusts maintenance intervals accordingly.
Valve clearance inspection is required after 45 hours of use. Piston replacement is recommended between 45 and 60 hours, depending on engine stress. A complete engine overhaul is scheduled between 90 and 120 hours of operation.
Market Availability
The Desmo250 MX will be available in select European markets starting July 2026. Deliveries in North America are set to begin in August 2026. Ducati has not announced plans to launch the Desmo250 MX in India. However, since the company previously introduced the Desmo450 MX, it remains uncertain if the Desmo250 MX will be offered in India on a made-to-order basis.
