Electric KTM Duke Breaks Cover: First Official Look
A charging cable was also found, indicating an onboard charger similar to the Bajaj Chetak. The KTM electric bike underpins the main trellis frame and gets offset rear shock suspension and an aluminum swingarm.
After making its debut in the 2022 annual Pierer Mobility Investor presentation, the KTM Duke Electric was displayed at KTM’s Motohall display area in Mattighofen, Austria. However, there is no confirmation about the launch of the electric KTM Duke in India, but the bike may make its arrival in the future. Displayed in a two-tone black and red color finish, the showcased model was the prototype version of the upcoming KTM Duke electric bike.
KTM Duke Electric Design
KTM has implemented future future-focused approach when designing the electric version of the Duke. The headlamp design of this electric bike is inspired by the new 990 Duke and 1390 Super Duke, while the air scoop extending under the swingarm is said to be inspired by MotoGP. KTM has also offered its signature fuel tank and extensions, while the 3D printed seats, wide handlebars, scooter-like handbrake for the rear, and 4.3-inch TFT display are borrowed from the 390 Enduro R.
The images confirm that there is space between the headstock and the fuel tank, likely to work as an air intake to cool down the battery when riding the bike. A charging cable was also found, indicating an onboard charger similar to the Bajaj Chetak. KTM Duke Electric: Battery & Performance
Officially, the powertrain details are unavailable, but the 2022 model was showcased with a 5.5 kWh battery pack and a 10 kW electric motor. This configuration delivered a maximum range of 100 km on a single charge. Since it is a prototype version, the production-ready model can pack a slightly more powerful motor.
Bajaj is preparing to take control of KTM operations, protecting the debt-ridden two-wheeler company by providing a necessary debt funding package of €800 million (approx Rs 7200 crore). While Bajaj has invested €200 million since FY24 to ensure KTM can keep running its business in India and target markets, the additional fund was recently provided to meet the creditor obligations and resume operations.
