EnerG Lubricants secures third Mercedes-Benz approval for 0W20 engine oil
EnerG Lubricants achieves a significant milestone by receiving its third Mercedes-Benz approval, this time for its advanced 0W20 engine oil designed for modern engines.
EnerG Lubricants has received its third engine oil approval from Mercedes-Benz. The German carmaker granted approval under the MB 229.71 category for EnerG G1 Sonic PLUS 0W-20 engine oil. Mercedes-Benz issued the certificate to NDTH Energy, the New Delhi-based company behind EnerG, on 22 June 2026.
Key Highlights
- EnerG G1 Sonic PLUS 0W-20 receives Mercedes-Benz MB 229.71 approval.
- EnerG and HPCL are the only Indian-origin brands on Mercedes-Benz’s approved engine oil list.
- EnerG holds three Mercedes-Benz engine oil approvals as of June 2026.
- EnerG also holds Volvo VDS-3 certification for its heavy-duty engine oil.
This approval places EnerG alongside HPCL as the only two Indian-origin brands on Mercedes-Benz’s approved engine oil list. The MB 229.71 specification covers thin, low-viscosity 0W-20 oils designed for modern petrol and diesel engines. These oils must meet strict requirements for performance and protection.
Details of Mercedes-Benz Approvals
EnerG’s first two Mercedes-Benz approvals came in November 2024. The company received certifications for MB 229.51 and MB 229.52 categories for its EnerG G1 Xtreme PLUS 5W-30 engine oil. Both categories are based on the ACEA C3 standard and cover thicker 5W-30 oils for similar engine types.
At that time, EnerG partnered with German additive manufacturer GAT GmbH. Together, they launched a co-branded GAT x EnerG product range. With the addition of MB 229.71, EnerG now holds three Mercedes-Benz approvals for its engine oils.
Approval Process and Requirements
Obtaining a Mercedes-Benz approval is a rigorous process. The oil must pass the carmaker’s laboratory and engine tests, not just meet specifications on paper. The approval is not permanent. Certificates remain valid for up to five years and only while the product is listed on the Mercedes-Benz operating fluids website. EnerG must continue to meet all requirements to retain its approvals.
EnerG G1 Sonic PLUS 0W-20 also meets API SQ and ACEA C6 performance grades. These international standards further confirm the oil’s quality and suitability for modern engines.
Other Industry Recognitions
EnerG has also achieved recognition from other major manufacturers. In August 2025, the company received Volvo approval for its EnerG G Force XL 15W-40 heavy-duty engine oil. This oil carries Volvo’s VDS-3 global certification. The certification places NDTH among a select group of manufacturers worldwide cleared against Volvo’s standards for commercial vehicle engines. These standards focus on longer oil-change intervals, reduced engine wear, and improved fuel efficiency.
EnerG’s growing list of approvals highlights its ability to meet demanding global standards for engine oils. The company continues to expand its presence in the automotive lubricant market through these certifications.
