Nitin Gadkari declares India's ambition to lead global auto manufacturing, targeting a ₹25 lakh crore industry, emphasizing EV adoption and sustainability.

In a significant announcement, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has reaffirmed the Indian government's ambitious goal to position India as the world's premier automobile manufacturing hub. The minister emphasized the aim to elevate the current ₹12.5 lakh crore industry to an impressive ₹25 lakh crore. Additionally, Gadkari also urged domestic auto manufacturers to embrace clean technologies such as electric vehicles (EVs) to ensure their competitiveness on the global stage.
This isn't the first time Gadkari has joined the government's vision for India's automotive sector. The minister has consistently highlighted the pivotal role that the industry plays in the nation's self-reliance initiatives, emphasizing its contribution to the goal of achieving a $5 trillion economy. He underscored the need for strategic investments in clean technologies, suggesting that failure to do so could result in missed opportunities for the manufacturers.
Gadkari proudly shared the remarkable progress made by the Indian automobile sector on the global stage. When he assumed office, India held the seventh position globally in the automotive sector. Since then, through concerted efforts and industry collaboration, India has surged ahead, claiming the third position globally. The minister emphasized the immense potential of the sector, highlighting that the demand extends beyond the domestic market to encompass the international markets.

The minister underscored the economic significance of the Indian automobile industry, citing its contribution to state and central government revenues through the Goods and Services Tax (GST). According to Gadkari, the sector currently generates ₹4 lakh crore through exports and sustains an impressive four crore jobs across the country, both directly and indirectly. He hailed the industry as a vital driver of economic growth and employment in India.
As part of the government's push towards a sustainable future, Gadkari highlighted the accelerating shift towards electric vehicles. He noted a substantial increase in EV sales in India over the past few years and emphasized the competitive advantage for those who have invested in this technology. The minister urged industry players to adopt electrification promptly, emphasizing that delayed action could pose challenges for those lagging behind.
