Geely’s AI-powered i-HEV hybrid sets Guinness World Record with 45 kmpl mileage
Geely’s latest AI-driven i-HEV hybrid technology has set a new Guinness World Record by achieving an astounding 45 kmpl fuel efficiency. By combining an ultra-efficient hybrid powertrain.

Geely has introduced its next-generation i-HEV ‘Intelligent Energy’ hybrid system, which has achieved a Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency. The new system, equipped with an AI-based energy management platform, recorded a mileage of 2.22 L/100 km (45.05 kmpl), making it one of the most efficient hybrid systems available today.
Key Highlights
- Geely's i-HEV hybrid system achieves 45.05 kmpl and a Guinness World Record
- AI-based energy management boosts efficiency by over 10 percent compared to previous systems
- Preface i-HEV and Monjaro i-HEV offer improved fuel economy over current models
- The system supports multiple engine types and advanced tech features in new models
Key Features of Geely’s i-HEV Hybrid
The i-HEV system features a rated thermal efficiency of 48.41%. This marks an improvement of over 10% compared to Geely’s previous hybrid systems. The AI-based energy management system predicts driving conditions and automatically selects between pure electric, series hybrid, and parallel drive modes. This ensures the engine operates at its highest efficiency.
The electric drive component delivers 230 kW (313 PS), enabling rapid acceleration from 0 to 30 kmph in just 1.84 seconds. The hybrid system is designed for efficient city driving, offering enhanced low-speed maneuverability and effective energy recuperation.
Fuel Efficiency and Model Details
The new i-HEV hybrid system will be available in popular Geely models, including the Monjaro (Xingyue L) and Preface (Xingrui). The Geely Preface i-HEV achieves a fuel consumption of 3.98 L/100 km (approximately 25.1 kmpl) under WLTC standards. The Monjaro i-HEV SUV records 4.75 L/100 km (about 21.05 kmpl). These figures represent notable improvements over the current models. The existing Preface offers 4.22 L/100 km (23.7 km/l), while the Monjaro ranges from 5.5 to 6.8 L/100 km (14.7 to 18 km/l).
Both new i-HEV versions feature updated alloy wheels, new color options, and advanced technology. Features include dual screens, Huawei HiCar, Flyme Auto infotainment, ventilated seats with massage function, and a head-up display.
Industry Context and Future Plans
Hybrid vehicles are gaining popularity among consumers and manufacturers in China. The hybrid approach allows integration of internal combustion engines with electric technology. Geely plans to expand the i-HEV system to other models, such as the Emgrand and Boyue, as part of a broader hybridization strategy.
The i-HEV system supports multiple engine types, including 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo petrol, and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines. These pair with an 11-in-1 integrated electric drive system. Other manufacturers, including Chery and Changan, are also developing advanced hybrid powertrains. The industry is targeting fuel consumption levels between 2 and 3 L/100 km to meet growing demand for efficient hybrids in China and global markets.
CarBike 360 Says
With its AI-based i-HEV hybrid and Guinness-certified 45 kmpl mileage, Geely has signaled how far mainstream hybrids can still evolve. This breakthrough blends high thermal efficiency, intelligent energy management and real-world usability, giving buyers EV-like running costs without charging anxiety. As rivals respond, the i-HEV sets a new benchmark for practical, tech-led efficiency.
