The Bharat Mobility Global Expo has commenced with a bang, and Mercedes-Benz India has proudly unveiled its showstopper – the EQG, an all-electric renewal of the iconic G-Wagon. Having made its debut at the 2021 Munich Motor Show as a concept, the production version of this electrified luxury SUV is set to make a grand entrance onto the global stage later this year, promising an eco-friendly yet luxury driving experience.
EQG Concept Design

While the EQG maintains the unmistakable 'G' silhouette, it introduces several electric vehicle (EV)-specific design modifications. The most striking change is the illuminated blanked-off grille, setting a distinctive aesthetic tone. Keen observers will note a sleek LED light strip running along the car's profile, complemented by Maybach S-Class-inspired alloys, a dual-tone silver and black paint scheme, and a stylish roof rack adorned with an integrated LED light bar. Notably, the rear-end bids farewell to the traditional tailgate-mounted spare wheel, making way for a purposeful box to house charging cables and miscellaneous items.
EQG Concept Interior

Step into the EQG, and you'll find a familiar dashboard design reminiscent of the standard G-Class SUV. However, the cabin boasts a sophisticated light beige finish, exuding an upscale ambiance. Dual integrated screens offer EV-specific graphics, aligning with the brand's electric vehicle lineup. While the elegance is undeniable, the light color scheme may pose concerns about susceptibility to dirt and stains.
EQG Concept Technical Specifications

Although detailed technical specifications are yet to be revealed, Mercedes-Benz has shared some key features of the EQG concept. Four motors power each wheel, and a two-speed gearbox facilitates tackling challenging off-road terrains, akin to a low-range transmission in traditional off-roaders. The EQG rests on a body-on-frame chassis, enhancing its capability to conquer rugged landscapes. A noteworthy highlight is its ability to spin on the spot, showcasing the vehicle's agility and versatility.
