NGK to build new ceramics plant in Ishikawa, Japan by 2029
NGK is set to expand its manufacturing footprint with a new ceramics facility in Ishikawa, Japan, aiming to boost production efficiency and meet rising global demand by 2029.

NGK Corporation has announced plans to build a new ceramics manufacturing facility in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The company aims to increase its production capacity for semiconductor equipment components by 20 percent by 2029. NGK will invest approximately Rs 4,200 crore (¥70 billion) in this project, with mass production scheduled to start in October 2029.
Key Highlights
- NGK will invest Rs 4,200 crore for a new ceramics plant in Ishikawa, Japan.
- The facility will increase semiconductor equipment component capacity by 20 percent by 2029
- Production is scheduled to begin in October 2029 with 150 employees at launch
- The plant will manufacture susceptors for use in high-temperature semiconductor processes
- NGK aims to enhance supply chain resilience and meet growing global semiconductor demand
Facility Details and Investment
The new plant will be operated by NGK CERAMIC DEVICE Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of NGK Corporation. The facility will focus on producing ceramic functional components called susceptors. These components play a key role in supporting silicon wafers during semiconductor manufacturing processes. Susceptors are designed to withstand high temperatures and corrosive gases, ensuring stability in demanding production environments.
NGK currently manufactures similar products at its Chita and Komaki facilities in Aichi Prefecture. To support the new development, NGK has acquired about 104,000 square metres of land next to its existing automotive-related operations in Nomi City. Construction of the new plant is set to begin in April 2027.
Production Capacity and Workforce
The Ishikawa facility will increase NGK's production capacity for ceramics used in semiconductor equipment by around 20 percent. At the start of production, the plant will employ about 150 people. Workforce numbers are expected to grow to approximately 250 when the facility reaches full production capacity.
The new plant will help NGK meet rising demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment components. The company noted that its current production network for these ceramics is concentrated in Japan’s Tokai region. The Ishikawa facility will support supply chain resilience and business continuity planning by diversifying NGK’s manufacturing footprint.
Market Outlook and Strategic Goals
NGK stated that the global semiconductor market is projected to grow over the medium to long term. This growth is driven by demand from mobile devices, generative AI applications, and the expansion of data centre infrastructure. The company also expects continued investments in advanced logic and memory manufacturing technologies to support demand for semiconductor production equipment and related components.
By expanding its manufacturing capacity and geographic presence, NGK aims to strengthen its position in the semiconductor equipment components market. The new Ishikawa facility is a key part of the company’s strategy to address future market needs and ensure stable supply to customers worldwide.
CarBike 360 Says
NGK’s upcoming Ishikawa plant reflects its long-term commitment to innovation and capacity expansion in the ceramics sector. As demand for advanced materials continues to grow across automotive and industrial applications, this strategic investment positions the company to strengthen its global supply chain while contributing to regional economic development in Japan.
