Norton Manx R Patent Details
The patent for the Norton Manx R was filed in the early weeks of this year. It has recently appeared online, confirming TVS's intent to introduce the bike to the Indian market. The Manx R was already unveiled at EICMA, so the patent does not reveal new details. However, it reinforces the likelihood of an imminent launch.
The Manx R features a 1,200cc, 72-degree, liquid-cooled V4 engine. This engine produces 206hp at 11,500rpm and 130Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. It includes cylinder deactivation technology, which shuts off the rear bank of cylinders when the bike is stationary. This feature aims to improve efficiency and reduce heat.
Technical Specifications and Features
The Manx R uses a cast aluminium monocoque frame and a single-sided swingarm. Unlike previous Norton models with hand-welded frames, this frame is machine-cast. The braking system uses Brembo Hypure calipers with twin 330mm discs at the front and a 245mm disc at the rear.
Suspension duties are handled by Ohlins, providing semi-active hardware. The system is managed by Marzocchi, ensuring advanced ride control. These technical features place the Manx R among the most sophisticated motorcycles in its segment.
Manufacturing and Market Plans
Norton will manufacture the Manx R in India at TVS’s Hosur plant. TVS already produces BMW motorcycles at this facility, including the 310cc platform, the CE 02 electric scooter, and the upcoming BMW F 450 GS. This experience supports TVS’s capability to handle high-end motorcycle production.
Last year, reports indicated that Norton Motorcycles would enter the Indian market by April. The recent patent filing for the Manx R strengthens expectations of a near-term launch. The unveiling of the full Norton lineup at EICMA further demonstrates the brand’s renewed focus under TVS ownership.
