Stellantis has filed a patent for the Leapmotor B10 electric SUV in India, indicating potential plans for the model's entry into the Indian market. While there is no official confirmation on the launch date, the patent filing suggests that preparations are underway. This move follows earlier announcements from Stellantis about introducing the Leapmotor brand in India as part of its global expansion.
Key Highlights
- Stellantis patents Leapmotor B10 electric SUV in India
- B10 features modern design and advanced technology
- Expected global price under Euro 30000 or Rs 327 lakh
- Model offers LEAP Pilot L2 ADAS suite with 17 functions
- Official launch timeline for India remains unconfirmed
Leapmotor Brand Plans in India
Stellantis aims to make Leapmotor the fourth brand under its India operations, joining Citroen, Jeep, and Maserati. Leapmotor will operate under Leapmotor International, a Stellantis-led joint venture managing markets outside China. Initial plans involve bringing Leapmotor models to India through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route, with assembly likely at Stellantis’ Ranjangaon facility. The company will consider local manufacturing based on market response and business feasibility.
The B10 electric SUV features a clean and modern design, including slim LED light bars, flush door handles, and smooth body panels. Its styling resembles the larger C10 SUV, focusing on simplicity. Globally, the B10 is expected to be priced under Euro 30,000 (approximately Rs 32.7 lakh), positioning it competitively among compact electric SUVs.
B10 Features and Specifications
The Leapmotor B10 is a compact electric SUV built on the LEAP 3.5 platform. It will be available with both all-electric and range-extender powertrain options in global markets. The vehicle emphasizes technology and comfort, offering a Qualcomm Snapdragon-based infotainment system and wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The cabin adopts a minimalist layout with a large central display. Additional features include a panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charging, NFC/Bluetooth key, and a 360-degree camera. Comfort features comprise reclining front seats, heated and ventilated seats on higher trims, ambient lighting, and a premium multi-speaker sound system. The B10 also offers a smartphone holder with integrated charging slots and connected car features through the Leapmotor app.
Safety is a key focus, with the B10 expected to include the LEAP Pilot L2 ADAS suite, providing up to 17 advanced driver assistance functions. These features aim to enhance safety in both city and highway conditions. The model has reportedly achieved a 5-star ANCAP safety rating in international markets.
Market Position and Outlook
With the patent filing, Leapmotor’s entry into India appears to be progressing, though launch timelines remain uncertain. Stellantis is likely to use its existing dealership network to establish Leapmotor’s presence. Previous reports indicate that Leapmotor may begin Indian operations with a compact hatchback and a midsize SUV. It is not yet confirmed if the B10 will be among the initial launches.
If introduced, the B10 would compete in India's expanding electric SUV segment, facing both global and local rivals. While the patent signals intent, an official launch announcement from Stellantis or Leapmotor is still pending.
