Tata Sierra Official Mileage Figures Revealed: Petrol 13.5 kmpl, Diesel 18.8 kmpl
Tata Motors has officially revealed the ARAI-certified mileage for the Sierra SUV: 13.5 kmpl for the 1.5L TGDi petrol and 18.8 kmpl for the 1.5L Kryojet diesel. Deliveries began in January 2026.

Tata Motors launched the new Sierra SUV in November 2025, but did not disclose ARAI-certified mileage figures at launch. These figures have now been revealed through an RTI filed by Twitter user Vahan Warta. The RTI response, sourced from ARAI, confirms the official fuel efficiency numbers for the Sierra's engines.
Key Highlights
- Tata Sierra ARAI-certified mileage now revealed via RTI response
- 1.5L TGDi Hyperion petrol delivers 13.5 kmpl as per certification
- 1.5L Kryojet diesel achieves 18.8 kmpl certified by ARAI
- Over 10,000 Sierra units delivered within weeks of launch
- Sierra EV launch expected by June 2026
ARAI Mileage Figures Released
The 1.5L TGDi Hyperion petrol engine in the Tata Sierra delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 13.5 kmpl. The 1.5L Kryojet diesel engine offers a higher figure at 18.8 kmpl. The 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol variant has not yet received its ARAI certification. The diesel engine was certified on 21 November 2025, while the turbo petrol engine received certification on 11 December 2025. Both certifications occurred around the Sierra's launch period.
The official figures are as follows:
- 1.5L NA Petrol – Certificate not yet issued
- 1.5L TGDi Hyperion Petrol – 13.5 kmpl (Certified on 11.12.2025)
- 1.5L Kryojet Diesel – 18.8 kmpl (Certified on 21.11.2025)
Market Response and Production Plans
At launch, Tata Motors promoted a marketing claim for the 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, stating it achieved 29.9 kmpl during a 12-hour run at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore. This figure was recorded as an India Book of Records achievement, but it was not based on ARAI certification.
Despite the absence of official mileage figures at launch, the Tata Sierra has experienced strong demand. Deliveries began on 15 January 2026. Tata Motors confirmed that it delivered over 10,000 units within a few weeks. The SUV attracted significant interest, with bookings exceeding 70,000 units within 24 hours and later surpassing 100,000 units. This indicates sustained buyer interest even without full transparency on all specifications.
Tata Motors is increasing production to meet demand. The Sierra is manufactured at the Sanand facility, alongside the Nexon. Production is expected to reach about 15,000 units per month in the coming months. In addition to internal combustion engine variants, Tata Motors plans to launch the Sierra EV by June 2026.
Transparency and Consumer Expectations
The delayed release of ARAI mileage figures has raised questions about transparency. In India, fuel efficiency is a key factor in car purchase decisions. Typically, manufacturers highlight such data at launch. The RTI response now provides official figures, filling the information gap several months after the Sierra's launch and initial deliveries.
