TVS has introduced a new MiniGP bike designed for young riders aged 10 to 15. The bike will be used in the TVS Racing MiniGP Program, which aims to help children begin their racing careers earlier. In India, most professional racers start at 16, but this program allows younger talent to develop and progress to higher levels, such as the Rookie’s Cup, starting at age 15.
Key Highlights
- TVS launches MiniGP bike for riders aged 10 to 15 in India
- Bike uses 197.75cc engine from Apache RTR 200 4V with 22.6bhp output
- Modified frame and 1180mm wheelbase designed for young racers
- Bike weighs 90kg and features a 690mm seat height for accessibility
MiniGP Bike Features
The MiniGP bike is based on the Apache RTR 200 4V platform but includes several modifications to suit younger riders. The engine remains the 197.75cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder motor, producing 22.6bhp. It uses a 30mm semi-flat-slide carburettor for fuel supply and features a conical free-flow exhaust system.
The frame and swingarm are modified from the RTR 200 4V, resulting in a shorter wheelbase of 1180mm. The suspension system includes an inverted fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The inverted fork offers preload, compression, and rebound adjustments, allowing for a customizable ride suited to young racers.
Design Adaptations for Young Riders
TVS prioritized weight reduction in the MiniGP bike. Only the fuel tank is made of metal, specifically aluminum, and it comes with a fibre cover. These changes bring the bike’s weight down to just 90kg, making it easier for younger riders to handle.
The seat height is set at 690mm, making it accessible for children as young as 10. These adaptations ensure the bike is both manageable and safe for its intended age group.
Racing Program Goals
The TVS Racing MiniGP Program seeks to identify and nurture young racing talent in India. By providing a dedicated platform and a specially designed bike, TVS aims to help riders transition smoothly to higher levels of competition. The program could serve as an important step for young racers aspiring to professional careers.
