The group was founded by the Munjal brothers in 1956 with the establishment of Hero Cycles Limited. The group later entered into a joint venture with Honda Motor Company in 1984 to form Hero Honda Motors Limited, which became the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer. 

The joint venture was terminated in 2010 and the group rebranded itself as Hero MotoCorp Limited. The Hero brand name was derived from the first two letters of the partners' names, Henckell and Roth, who founded the Conservenfabrik Lenzburg in Switzerland in 1886 to process fruit and vegetables. Evolution of Suzuki

By 1954, Suzuki was producing 6,000 motorcycles per month and had officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. As a result, an international arbitration court ordered Volkswagen to sell back its stake in Suzuki. In September 2015, Suzuki completed the stock buy-back by paying $3.8 billion.
