Tata Motors has marked a major milestone by celebrating two decades of successful collaboration with Stellantis. This partnership has evolved through shared innovation, local manufacturing excellence, and mutual commitment to sustainable mobility. To commemorate this 20-year journey, both companies have signed a fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new opportunities aligned with the fast-changing global automotive landscape.
Over the past twenty years, Tata Motors and Stellantis have leveraged each other’s strengths to build a robust industrial and technological foundation in India, setting new benchmarks in quality, localization, and future-ready mobility solutions. The new MoU sets the stage for the next chapter of innovation, science, and technology.

The Tata Motors–Stellantis alliance began in 2006, when both companies joined hands to produce passenger vehicles and powertrains for the Indian market. What started as a strategic manufacturing collaboration quickly evolved into one of the most enduring and productive automotive partnerships in the country.
Over the years, the partnership has led to significant investments, the creation of skilled jobs, and strong local supply chains. Stellantis’ Ranjangaon facility in Pune, established through this collaboration, remains a cornerstone of their joint operations, producing a range of vehicles and engines for Tata Motors and other Stellantis brands such as Fiat and Jeep.
The newly signed MoU outlines areas of cooperation that reflect the evolving priorities of the global mobility landscape. Both companies intend to leverage each other’s technological expertise to accelerate electrification, enhance sustainable manufacturing practices, and explore new product segments tailored for Indian and emerging markets.

Stellantis India’s CEO highlighted that the 20-year collaboration has been instrumental in making India a key node in the group’s global supply chain. “Our partnership with Tata Motors has always been rooted in trust and long-term commitment. As we embark on a new phase, we see India as a strategic base for engineering excellence and sustainable production,” he noted.
Tata Motors echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that joint efforts have supported domestic manufacturing ecosystems, encouraging innovation and workforce development. The company reaffirmed its belief that combining Tata’s deep understanding of the Indian consumer with Stellantis’ global expertise will continue to yield mutually rewarding outcomes.
As Tata Motors and Stellantis celebrate this 20-year milestone, the partnership stands as an example of how strategic alliances can create lasting industrial value. In an era defined by rapid technological transformation, their collaboration offers a model for how legacy automakers can evolve together, balancing innovation with sustainability and global ambition with local strength.
The journey that began two decades ago has now entered a forward-looking phase, focused on electrified, connected, and eco-efficient mobility. With the new MoU in place, Tata Motors and Stellantis reaffirm not just their shared history.
