The new Renault Duster marks a significant shift in Renault India's strategy, focusing on updated design and India-specific features. The SUV stands out for its driving dynamics, setting a new benchmark in its segment. The steering is more direct and communicative than its competitors, and the Duster offers impressive handling and body control. At high speeds, the vehicle remains composed and confident, providing an engaging driving experience that most rivals do not match.

Key Highlights:

  • Renault Duster returns with improved handling and direct steering
  • A firmer ride prioritizes sharper on-road manners over comfort
  • Cabin improvements have been made, but some features and materials still lag rivals
  • Duster challenges Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq in the segment
  • Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos remain strong competitors

Driving Experience and Performance

The Duster's dynamic strengths come with a trade-off. The ride is firmer compared to the previous model, making it less absorbent over rough surfaces. This adjustment appears intentional, prioritizing sharper on-road manners over comfort on broken roads. Despite this, the Duster retains its solid and rugged feel, maintaining its reputation as the most SUV-like option in its class.

These changes position the 2026 Renault Duster as a strong competitor against other models in the segment. The Volkswagen Taigun, which is due for an update, faces increased competition. The Duster also challenges the recently improved Skoda Kushaq. The upcoming hybrid version of the Duster is expected to compete with strong-hybrid models like the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Victoris.

Interiors & Features

The cabin of the new Duster shows improvements, but still falls short in some areas. Shoulder room is limited compared to rivals, and some interior plastics do not meet segment expectations. Certain key features are also missing, which may affect its appeal to buyers seeking a more premium experience.

Despite these limitations, the Duster's core strengths in driving dynamics and ruggedness make it a compelling choice. However, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos remain strong competitors. These models continue to offer a more well-rounded package, making them less vulnerable to the Duster's renewed challenge.

Engine and Performance

Talking about its engine, the 2026 Renault Duster features two turbo-petrol engines for the Indian market. The base powertrain unit is a 1.0L 3-cylinder unit producing 100 HP of power and 160 Nm. The second powertrain is a segment-leading 1.3L 4-cylinder turbo TCe 160 engine that produces 163 HP of power and 280 Nm of peak torque.

A strong hybrid E-Tech variant combines a 1.8L petrol engine, producing 109 HP, with electric motors for 160 HP of maximum power and 172 Nm. It launches later in 2026. Transmissions include a 6-speed manual for the smaller engine and a 6-speed manual or DCT for the 1.3L.
