Volkswagen is preparing to launch the facelifted Taigun SUV, expected to arrive around mid-2026. Recent spy shots in Pune show a red left-hand drive test vehicle with minimal camouflage, revealing several design changes. The company is testing this version for export markets.
Key Highlights
- Volkswagen Taigun facelift expected to launch around mid 2026
- Spy shots reveal new headlamp design and updated bumpers
- New 8 speed automatic to replace 6 speed automatic with 1.0 litre turbo petrol
- Interior updates likely to include panoramic sunroof and digital cockpit
- Facelifted Taigun will compete with Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos
Exterior Design Changes

The 2026 Taigun facelift features a refreshed front fascia. The headlamp housings are now curvier and eye-shaped, replacing the previous rectangular units. The LED daytime running lights on top are thicker and more prominent. Although the grille remains camouflaged, earlier images suggest a full-width LED strip and an illuminated Volkswagen logo will be included.
The front bumper now has horizontal slats instead of the earlier mesh design. The side profile remains similar to the current model, but the alloy wheels have a new blacked-out design. Dual-tone alloy wheels may be available depending on the variant. Other exterior features include a prominent shoulder line, conventional door handles, a shark fin antenna, and roof rails.
At the rear, the facelifted Taigun gets larger tail lamps, which may be connected by an LED strip. Volkswagen may introduce an illuminated badge in red, similar to the Skoda Kushaq facelift. The rear bumper has also been updated for a smoother look.
Expected Interior and Features

The interior of the Taigun facelift has not been fully revealed. However, it is expected to adopt several features from the Kushaq facelift. Likely updates include a rear seat massager, a panoramic sunroof as standard, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit with turn-by-turn navigation, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Google-powered AI companion app, and powered and ventilated front seats.
Powertrain and Transmission Updates
The Taigun facelift is expected to introduce a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This will replace the existing 6-speed automatic option. The 6-speed manual transmission will continue. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.
The SUV will also continue to offer the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which generates 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission, which will carry over to the facelifted model.
Market Position and Competition
The updated Taigun will compete with established models like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Kia Seltos. It will also face new rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, and Nissan Tekton when it launches in mid-2026.
