Bharat Forge to establish marine gas turbine facility for Indian Navy in Andhra Pradesh
The new facility will enhance India’s naval propulsion capabilities while strengthening domestic defense production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Bharat Forge Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish a marine gas turbine repair, overhaul, and development facility. The facility will be built on an 80-acre site in the state defense manufacturing corridor in Visakhapatnam.
The agreement was formalized during the Aerospace and Defense Investment Conclave in Puttaparthy on May 19. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu attended the signing ceremony.
Key Highlights
- Bharat Forge signs MoU to build marine gas turbine facility in Andhra Pradesh
- 80 acre site in Visakhapatnam to support Indian Navy repair and overhaul needs
- The first phase offers 72-hour turnaround for naval dockyard component repairs
- Project expected to create around 750 direct and indirect jobs
- The facility will serve as a regional maintenance hub for friendly foreign navies
Facility to Support Indian Navy Operations
The new complex will provide localized repair and overhaul services for the Indian Navy. It aims to address disruptions in overseas supply chains that have previously affected the operational readiness of frontline surface combatants. The facility will be located close to the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
In the first phase, the facility will focus on setting up a repair and overhaul complex. This complex will manufacture components and offer a 72-hour turnaround service for the naval dockyard. The second phase will involve the creation of an assembly hall and a hot test cell. These will support the development and qualification of an indigenous marine gas turbine.
Employment and Regional Maintenance Hub
Bharat Forge expects the Visakhapatnam project to create about 750 direct and indirect jobs. The facility will not only serve the Indian Navy but also act as a regional maintenance hub for the naval forces of friendly foreign countries. This expansion is part of a broader effort to boost domestic defense manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
The aerospace division of Bharat Forge will oversee the setup and operation of the facility. The project aligns with national goals to strengthen self-reliance in defense technology and support the operational needs of the navy.
