F 450 GS Kicks Off BMW’s 450cc Journey

The first motorcycle built on the new platform is the BMW F 450 GS, which was unveiled at EICMA 2025. Positioned as the new entry point into BMW’s GS lineup, it will be positioned above the outgoing G 310 GS and below BMW’s larger F-series adventure motorcycles. Powering the F 450 GS is the all-new 450cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, tuned to meet A2 license requirements while promising a noticeable upgrade in performance and refinement over the older single-cylinder engines. BMW has confirmed this engine will be shared across multiple upcoming 450cc models.

BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch has confirmed that the 450cc platform will not remain limited to the adventure segment. While exact timelines are yet to be revealed, BMW suggests that the upcoming lineup will closely follow the structure of the outgoing 310 range. This strongly suggests that a naked roadster will be next in line, replacing the G 310 R. A fully faired SuperSport is also likely to follow later, stepping in for theG 310 RR, after analyzing the market demand.

A Clear Reset for BMW’s Entry Segment

With the 450 twin-cylinder platform replacing the 310 lineups entirely, BMW Motorrad is effectively resetting its approach to smaller-capacity motorcycles. The brand plans to bring more rider-assistance features to the A2 segment with the 450 range. BMW has confirmed that the upcoming F 450 GS will use the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), aimed at improving ease of riding for A2 segment, especially for new riders. The move reflects changing market expectations, where buyers now demand more performance, better refinement and premium features even in the sub-500cc space.

Verdict

BMW’s move to a 450cc twin platform feels like a timely and necessary upgrade. By retiring the ageing 310 series, the brand is aligning better with today’s performance-focused buyers. If priced smartly, the 450 range could finally give BMW a stronger foothold in the competitive sub-500cc segment.
