BSSPL deploys AI-Driver monitoring across aviation fuelling fleet at major airports
BSSPL introduces AI-based driver monitoring technology across its airport fuelling fleet to strengthen safety standards, minimise human error, and ensure efficient aviation fuel operations.

Bharat Stars Services Private Limited (BSSPL) has partnered with Netradyne to deploy an AI-based driver-monitoring platform across its aviation fuelling vehicles. The rollout will cover fleets operating at Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru airports. The initiative aims to enhance operational safety in airport ground handling environments.
Key Highlights
- BSSPL to deploy AI driver monitoring across aviation fuelling vehicles at three major Indian airports.
- Netradyne's Driver i-platform uses computer vision to detect fatigue distraction and unsafe driving.
- Systems issue real-time alerts and provide collision warnings to enhance airside operational safety.
- GreenZone safety scoring tracks positive driving and helps benchmark driver performance trends.
AI Platform Implementation Details
BSSPL is a joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and ST Airport Services Pte. Ltd (STARS). The company will implement Netradyne's Driver•i platform across its aviation fuelling fleet. This edge AI system uses computer vision technology to monitor and analyse driving behaviour during vehicle operations.
The Driver i-platform identifies signs of driver fatigue, drowsiness, and distraction. It issues real-time in-cab alerts to drivers, enabling them to respond before incidents occur. The system also provides collision warnings for vehicles operating near aircraft, ground support equipment, and airport personnel. These features are designed to reduce the risk of accidents on the tarmac.
Safety Scoring and Operational Impact
In addition to detecting unsafe driving, the platform includes Netradyne's GreenZone safety scoring framework. This mechanism recognises and tracks positive driving practices. The scoring system allows fleet operators to benchmark driver performance and monitor safety trends across operations.
BSSPL's Chief Executive Officer, JP Singh, stated that ground operations teams work around the clock in demanding airport environments. He noted that while rigorous safety standards are in place, fatigue and distraction can still affect even experienced operators. The new AI platform is intended to address these risks by providing continuous monitoring and timely alerts.
BSSPL provides in-plane fuelling services, fuel farm management, and aviation fuel solutions at major airports. The company said the deployment of the AI platform will strengthen operational safety for its airside fuelling activities. These operations require vehicles to function in close proximity to active aircraft under strict safety protocols.
Industry Context and Future Outlook
The adoption of AI-based monitoring reflects a broader trend in the aviation and logistics sectors. Companies are increasingly using advanced technology to improve safety and efficiency in high-risk environments. BSSPL's move aligns with industry efforts to minimise incidents and enhance accountability through data-driven solutions.
The deployment at Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru airports marks a significant step in integrating AI technology into airport ground operations. The company expects the system to support safer fuelling activities and set new benchmarks for driver performance monitoring.
