Cardo Systems launches Venture Mesh communication helmet for off road riders

Cardo Systems has introduced the Venture, the world's first motocross and off-road helmet with integrated mesh communication. The Venture targets dirt and off-road riders who need real-time communication without shouting, stopping, or relying on hand signals. These traditional methods are often inefficient, especially in challenging terrain.

Key Features and Safety Standards

The Venture helmet uses the Leatt Moto 8.5 as its safety platform. It features a composite shell, four-density impact foam, emergency release cheek pads, a Double D-ring fastener, and a breakaway visor. The helmet meets ECE R22.06 and DOT safety standards, ensuring that the integrated communication system does not compromise helmet safety.

Cardo has included 360-degree Turbine Technology for added impact protection. This system uses turbine discs that allow the helmet to move slightly on the rider's head during an impact. This movement helps reduce peak acceleration to the head and brain. The turbine material also absorbs lower-impact energy, which can help reduce concussion risk. Off-road crashes often involve angled impacts and mixed surfaces, making this technology especially relevant.

Communication and Connectivity

The Venture helmet features second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC). This system allows up to 15 riders to connect and communicate in real time. The claimed communication range is up to 1.6 kilometers, or about one mile. This range is useful for trail groups, training schools, amateur events, and long rides where riders may spread out over difficult terrain.

Audio is delivered through 40mm Sound by JBL speakers, providing clear sound quality. Off-road helmets usually have open shapes, so a dedicated audio system helps riders hear instructions, alerts, or coaching comments more clearly. This feature benefits both recreational rides and skill training sessions, where coaches can communicate directly with riders.

The Venture also supports live Bluetooth intercom, allowing connection with other major helmet brands. Additional features include music sharing, over-the-air software updates, IP67 waterproofing, and removable, serviceable, and upgradable electronic components.

Availability and Certification

Availability of the Venture helmet in India remains uncertain. The country has a BIS certification deadlock for international-spec helmets. The most practical solution would be for original equipment manufacturers to partner with Cardo and expedite BIS certification. This would allow Indian riders to access the Venture helmet more quickly.
