The GE DEE Museum in Coimbatore has finally inaugurated its new Performance Car Section, marking a significant milestone in the history of Indian automotive culture. This sophisticated museum features race cars, sports cars, and elite supercars. Car enthusiasts and motorsport lovers can visit and experience the journey of speed, engineering excellence, and the automotive landscape. This new section is designed to inspire future generations that exhibit blends of interactive storytelling with rare automotive artifacts. This museum made Coimbatore a growing hub for performance motoring appreciation in India.
According to the report, the inauguration of this new museum coincided with Mr. G.D. Gopal, Managing Trustee of the Gedee Car Museum, being inducted into the FIVA (Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens) Hall of Fame 2025. This honor, conferred by FIVA Vice President Mr. Ramin Salehkhou, acknowledges Gopal’s lifelong dedication to preserving automotive history and fostering public engagement with engineering heritage. Let’s take a closer look at this historic museum that defines automotive heritage.
Performance Car Section: A Journey Through Speed

Talking about what’s inside the museum. While entering as a visitor to the museum, you will be greeted by two classic genres—an MG TC and an Alfa Romeo Spider. Parallel to these sits a McLaren Artura, enhanced by comparative infographics that highlight technological advancements in power, efficiency, and design. Furthermore, there’s a section that explores the science and development of motorsport pit stops. A Formula car built by JA Motorsport in Coimbatore takes place.
Showcasing Global Icons and Local Legacy

The center stage features an elite collection of sports cars and supercars. One side showcases an iconic Mazda RX8, Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4, and Mercedes SLK. On the other side, we can see a Toyota MR2 convertible, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ford Mustang, a Maserati Ghibli, and a Ferrari 599. This diverse collection spans engine configurations from V6 to V12, representing the golden era of naturally aspirated performance.
Adjacent to these global icons, a dedicated zone is made to represent Coimbatore’s motorsport legacy. It showcases locally built race cars such as the Formula LGB, McDowell 1000, and a recreation of S. Karivardhan’s modified Fiat 1100 (Premier Padmini). Moreover, a Ford GT40, symbolic of high-speed endurance racing, anchors this section, reinforcing the city’s reputation as India’s motorsport capital.
British Excellence Legacy

The final section inside the museum honors the British automotive legacy. With legendary drives such as the Rolls-Royce, Lotus, and Aston Martin V8 Vantage showcased, dissected, and suspended in mid-air. This engineering sculpture serves as both a visual spectacle and an educational tool, revealing the complexity of high-performance powertrains and chassis systems.
Visitor Experience and Operational Details
For visitors, the GE DEE Museum opens from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. The entry fees are set at Rs 75 for adults and Rs 25 for children aged 6 to 13.
