Hyundai to Unveil Seven-Seater Ioniq 9 EV Late in 2024

Hyundai is preparing to unveil its flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, in late 2024. The Ioniq 9, a seven-seater SUV, sharing its platform with the Kia EV9, evolves from the Hyundai Seven concept showcased three years ago. Positioned as a direct competitor to high-end electric SUVs like the Volvo EX90 and BMW iX, the Ioniq 9 represents Hyundai's push into the premium electric vehicle market.

The Ioniq 9 will utilize an extended version of Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (e-GMP). It's expected to feature a 99.8kWh battery pack, mirroring its Kia counterpart.

Multiple screens, premium materials, and a mix of physical and touch controls will likely define the cabin. A steering column-mounted gear selector, similar to that in the Santa Fe, is anticipated.

The naming choice of "Ioniq 9" over "Ioniq 7" suggests Hyundai's intention to position this model at the top of its electric line-up. This strategic decision avoids any perception of inferiority to the Kia EV9.
