Hyundai has introduced its first China-specific all-electric vehicle, the Ioniq V, at Auto China 2026. The Ioniq V is the debut model under Hyundai's Ioniq brand for the Chinese market. It is based on the Venus concept, which was revealed earlier this month, and carries forward many of its design elements.
Key Highlights
- Hyundai launches Ioniq V electric SUV for China at Auto China 2026
- Ioniq V offers over 600km range in long-range variant under CLTC standard
- Beijing Hyundai joint venture to invest 8 billion Yuan and launch 20 new models in five years
- Segment-best legroom and shoulder room claimed for Ioniq V interior
Ioniq V Design and Features
The Hyundai Ioniq V adopts several features from the Venus concept, including the Sakhir Gold exterior color. The front showcases slim LED daytime running lights shaped into two halves of the letter ‘H’ and a black strip spanning the width of the vehicle. The headlights are positioned on the bumper, which also houses active aerodynamic vents.
From the side, the Ioniq V features frameless windows, black wheel arches, and pull-type door handles. The vehicle is equipped with low-profile tyres, though the rim size has not been disclosed. At the rear, slim LED lightbars are connected by a black trim. The boot lid displays an ‘Ioniq’ badge and a black lip spoiler.
Interior and Technology
The interior of the Ioniq V remains largely unchanged from the Venus concept. It includes a 27-inch 4K display across the dashboard for infotainment and a wide, colored head-up display for instrumentation. The steering wheel is a 3-spoke design with touch-enabled controls.
The Ioniq V features an 8-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos support and ambient lighting. Hyundai claims the vehicle offers segment-best legroom of 1,078mm in the first row and 1,019mm in the second row. Shoulder room is also notable, with 1,502mm at the front and 1,473mm at the rear.
Powertrain and Range
Hyundai has not provided full powertrain details for the Ioniq V. However, the company states that the long-range model will offer a driving range of over 600km on a single charge, based on the CLTC standard. This suggests that a standard-range version with a lower range will also be available.
Hyundai's China Strategy
To strengthen its presence in China, Hyundai has outlined a plan involving sustained investment, localized product development, and deeper collaboration with its joint venture partner. Hyundai and BAIC Group have formed a joint venture named ‘Beijing Hyundai’, with both companies investing a total of 8 billion Yuan.
Over the next five years, Beijing Hyundai aims to launch 20 new models in China. Following the Ioniq V, an additional SUV model is scheduled for release in the first half of 2027, expected to be based on the Earth Concept. The company plans to expand its lineup to include midsize and large vehicles, covering both battery electric vehicles and extended-range electric vehicles.
Hyundai targets annual sales of 500,000 units, leveraging growth in the Chinese market and increased export opportunities.
