India's Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has assured that the country faces no fuel supply issues despite ongoing tensions in West Asia. Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit, Puri highlighted that the government has increased LPG production from 35,000-36,000 tonnes per day to 54,000 tonnes per day to ensure stable supply.
Key Highlights
- India increases LPG production from 35,000-36,000 to 54,000 tonnes per day

- Oil Minister assures there is no fuel supply issue despite West Asia tensions
- The prime minister urges reduced fuel use and postponement of gold purchases and foreign travel
Puri stated that India currently holds 69 days of crude oil and LNG stocks, along with 45 days of LPG reserves. He emphasized that there is no shortage of LPG in the country at this time.
Government Response to West Asia Crisis
The government has taken steps to secure the fuel supply as the West Asia conflict continues. The increase in LPG production aims to meet domestic demand and prevent any disruptions. Puri reiterated that the country is well-prepared, with significant reserves of crude oil, LNG, and LPG.
He also addressed concerns about fiscal strain due to the crisis. Puri referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent call for austerity as a necessary measure. He urged citizens and businesses to consider actions that could reduce the financial impact of the ongoing situation in West Asia.
Prime Minister's Austerity Appeal
Prime Minister Modi, during a rally in Hyderabad, called for judicious use of fuel and other resources. He suggested that people reduce petrol and diesel consumption, use metro rail services in cities, carpool, and increase the use of electric vehicles. Modi also encouraged the use of railway services for parcel movement and promoted working from home to help conserve foreign exchange.
In addition, Modi advised postponing gold purchases and foreign travel for one year. These measures, he said, would help strengthen the Indian economy and conserve valuable foreign exchange during the current crisis.
Outlook and Recommendations
The government continues to monitor the situation in West Asia closely. Officials stress the importance of responsible fuel use and support for measures that can reduce fiscal pressure. The increased LPG production and existing reserves are expected to maintain supply stability in the near future.
