Indian Armed Forces Show Interest in Suzuki 5-Door Jimny
Maruti Suzuki aims to explore the supply of 5-door Jimny to Indian Armed Forces after making necessary upgradation, reports say.
Maruti Suzuki, India's one of the largest automotive manufacturers, has proposed to commence production of a new 5-door Jimny for the Indian Armed Forces. According to sources, the company will specifically design Jimny to meet the diverse requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, while it will also enhance the company's strategic partnership in the defense sector.

The senior executive director of Maruti Suzuki Ltd, Shashank Srivastava, confirmed that Indian Armed Forces had shown interest in the upcoming 5-door Jimny. The company could take it once this lifestyle SUV is available in the domestic market.
This news update is the result of an extensive discussion between the Indian Armed Forces and Maruti Suzuki. The armed forces need a versatile and robust vehicle that can efficiently navigate tough terrains, accommodate armed forces, and carry equipment.
Although the existing three-door Jimny hasn't built a strong reputation among Indian customers and also lacks off-road capabilities; in Comparison, this upcoming 5-door Jimny is expected to be equipped with a robust powertrain, larger dimensions, and enhanced off-road capabilities, which may suit the requirements of the armed forces.
After recognizing this opportunity, Maruti executives have proactively addressed the concern and proposed to offer a highly customized version of the new Jimny.
The 5-door Jimny offered to Indian Armed Forces will probably offer improved seating capacity and higher cargo volume, making this SUV ideal for various military operations.
Further, the upgraded version of the upcoming Jimny will pack a rugged exterior and mechanicals to ensure proper compatibility with diverse terrains and weather conditions.
Maruti Suzuki's strategic initiative to make 5-door Jimny compatible with the needs of the Indian Armed Forces will align with the "Make in India" campaign that focuses on local manufacturing and self-sufficiency.
With this decision to cater to the specific need of the armed forces, the carmaker aims to extend its position in the Indian defense sector.
In the last few years, Maruti has effectively catered to the versatile vehicle to the armed forces, particularly with its immensely popular Maruti Gypsy, which used to have a short wheelbase, peppy petrol powertrain, and lighter dimensions. Further, this off-road also used to offer several customization options.
Now the new Jimny would emerge as a suitable replacement for the Maruti Gypsy still being used by armed forces. Although we can expect more reports on this recent update in the coming months once Jimny gets introduced on June 7 in India.
