Infineon and AWS launch cloud platform for automotive microcontroller evaluation
Infineon and AWS have partnered to deliver a cloud-based solution that simplifies automotive microcontroller testing, enabling developers to accelerate innovation and reduce hardware dependency.

Infineon Technologies AG and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have launched a cloud-based platform for virtual evaluation of automotive microcontrollers. This new platform reduces evaluation cycles from weeks to minutes. Select Infineon customers will gain access starting in the third quarter of 2026.
Key Highlights
- Infineon and AWS launch cloud platform for automotive microcontroller evaluation.
- The platform reduces evaluation cycles from weeks to minutes and supports hundreds of users.
- Includes next-generation RISC-V architecture and offers two modes for different user needs.
- Select Infineon customers will access the platform from the third quarter of 2026.
Cloud Platform for Microcontroller Evaluation
The platform is designed to accelerate automotive system development by eliminating the need for physical hardware. Infineon states that the platform supports hundreds of users globally and lowers the cost of evaluation per user. It already features Infineon's next-generation RISC-V architecture.
Thomas Schneid, vice president of software, partner & ecosystem management at Infineon, explained that development speed is now a key factor in the automotive industry. The rise of software-defined vehicles has increased the need for faster development. Schneid noted that hardware dependency has slowed engineering teams, but the new platform enables earlier engagement with Infineon's microcontrollers, including those based on RISC-V.
Platform Features and Access
The platform uses AWS's Virtual Engineering Workbench, which is an open-source tool for digital toolchains, hardware virtualization, and infrastructure management. Users access the platform through a browser-based interface, removing the need for local tool installation. Each user receives an isolated cloud environment.
Sonja Gatzke, Head of Manufacturing at AWS Germany, said the collaboration allows engineering teams to begin evaluating microcontrollers within minutes. The platform makes RISC-V architectures instantly accessible to developers worldwide.
Modes of Operation
The platform offers two modes. Quick Mode enables rapid testing with pre-configured reference applications. Expert Mode provides a full in-browser virtual machine environment for advanced prototyping. This mode includes compilation, flashing, debugging, and performance analysis.
Infineon also stated that the platform automates packaging and release of new microcontroller variants for its product teams. Usage tracking is included to support future product planning.
Availability and Future Plans
The platform will be available to selected Infineon customers starting in the third quarter of 2026. A broader rollout is planned after the initial release. The platform aims to support faster and more efficient development of automotive microcontrollers for customers worldwide.
