JaguarLand Rover, owned by Tata Motors, has temporarily paused production on certain vehicle lines at its Solihull plant in the UK. The company cited a supply constraint from a supplier as the reason for this action, according to a stock exchange filing by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd.
Key Highlights
- Jaguar Land Rover paused production at Solihull plant due to supplier constraint
- Shutdown affects certain vehicle lines including Range Rover and Range Rover Sport
- Company expects no significant impact on overall operations or financials
- Pause may last until April 8 including Easter weekend shutdown
- Last year a cyber-attack caused a one-month shutdown costing £260 million
The company described the disruption as short-term and limited in scope. Jaguar Land Rover is working closely with the supplier to resolve the issue quickly and minimise any impact on clients or operations. The company has not disclosed how long the production pause will last.
Details of the Production Pause
The production halt affects only specific vehicle lines at the Solihull facility. Tata Motors clarified that it does not expect any material impact on its overall operations or financial performance due to this temporary disruption.
The clarification followed a news report on March 27, which stated that Jaguar Land Rover had stopped output at its UK plant because of supplier disruption. The company emphasised that the pause is restricted to the Solihull facility and does not represent a broader operational shutdown.
According to the Financial Times, the shutdown may last nearly two weeks. The report linked the disruption to a fire at a supplier's facility in Norway. Jaguar Land Rover reportedly informed suppliers that production for its Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models would pause until April 8. This period includes a scheduled five-day shutdown for the Easter weekend.
Company Response and Broader Context
Tata Motors stated it remains in constant communication with the affected supplier. The automaker described all discussions regarding the supply chain as part of routine business operations. The company indicated there is no sequence of events requiring disclosure, suggesting the issue is being managed through standard operational procedures.
The Solihull facility is one of Jaguar Land Rover’s main manufacturing sites. The current pause reflects a supply-side constraint rather than a full operational shutdown. Last year, Jaguar Land Rover experienced a one-month shutdown after a cyber-attack, which cost the company £260 million.
Jaguar Land Rover manufactures vehicles in the UK, Slovakia, and China, and operates assembly units in India and Brazil. The company continues to monitor the situation and aims to restore normal operations at Solihull as soon as possible.
