Kia Syros Receives Design Tweaks and New Variants Amid Feature Reductions
Kia has updated the Syros with minor design changes and new variants, but removed key features. The model faces challenges with styling and engine calibration. An electric version is expected later this year.

Kia has introduced subtle design changes and new variants for the Syros, resulting in a more accessible entry-level price. Despite these updates, questions remain about whether these incremental changes will significantly boost sales. The Syros has proven itself as a solid product during long-term testing, but its unconventional styling continues to be a major challenge in the Indian market. The model lacks the visual appeal of its siblings, the Seltos and Sonet, making it less attractive to buyers.
Key Highlights
- Kia Syros gets subtle design changes and new entry-level variants
- Key features like 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS suite removed
- Manual door handles and seat ventilation need improvement
- Diesel engine calibration lags behind Sonet and Seltos
- Electric Syros expected to launch later this year
Design and Feature Updates
Kia's recent cosmetic adjustments appear to address surface-level concerns rather than core issues. While a full model overhaul is not feasible for a year-old vehicle, these minor updates do not provide the Syros with the strong market presence it needs. The company has also quietly removed key features such as the 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS suite. This move contradicts Kia's reputation for offering feature-rich vehicles and weakens the Syros' premium positioning.
There is speculation that Kia may introduce GT and X Line variants for the Syros, similar to those available with the Seltos, Sonet, and recently with the Clavis and Clavis EV. The revision of available variants is another notable change, but restoring lost technology remains a priority for many customers.
Key Areas for Improvement
To enhance the Syros' appeal, Kia must address three specific issues. First, the current manual door handles are unintuitive and often confuse new users. Second, seat ventilation should be optimized for the Indian climate, with rear-seat ventilation integrated into the seat backrest rather than just the base. Third, the diesel engine requires recalibration, as it currently feels more stressed and less efficient than the engines in the Sonet and Seltos.
The Syros stands out in the sub-four-metre SUV segment due to its panoramic sunroof and high-quality interior materials. However, unless Kia focuses on functional improvements rather than cost-cutting, the Syros will continue to lag behind its more popular stablemates.
Future Developments
Kia is preparing to launch an electric version of the Syros later this year. The electric model has already been seen testing. Since the current Syros already features some EV-like design elements, it remains to be seen how Kia will differentiate the electric variant from its internal combustion engine counterpart.
