Price Hike and GST Impact

The price increase affects the KTM 390 lineup, with some models seeing hikes up to Rs 40,000. The 390 Adventure X, now at Rs 3.43 lakh, is positioned as a more accessible, road-focused option compared to the standard 390 Adventure. The recent changes follow the implementation of a 40% GST rate on motorcycles above 350cc. Previously, KTM absorbed the extra GST cost, but the company is now passing it on to buyers.

The upcoming launch of 350cc KTM models will offer a lower 18% GST rate. This allows KTM to offer more budget-friendly options while maintaining the 390cc lineup at a higher price point. The strategy aims to minimize the impact on overall sales by providing choices for both premium and budget-oriented buyers.

Comparison with Other Brands

Triumph has shifted its 400cc bikes to a 350cc engine platform to benefit from the lower GST rate. In contrast, KTM plans to offer both 350cc and 400cc versions. This approach creates a clear distinction between the two lineups and provides buyers with more options.

KTM may further update its 390cc models in the future. The company is developing a 450cc parallel-twin engine, starting with the RC 390. KTM has already collaborated with CFMoto for manufacturing in some markets and is working on a new 450cc twin-cylinder platform for others.
