The prototype is currently undergoing testing, showcasing its prowess in extreme conditions, and a recent teaser has unveiled its remarkable water wading capabilities.
Design Familiarity with EV-Specific Redesign
The electric Range Rover, scheduled for 2024, maintains the iconic design of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. From the teaser, it's apparent that the overall shape remains consistent, with EV-specific elements such as a charging port and distinct features on the alloy wheels. Expect an "EV" badge on the rear, marking its transition into the electric vehicle realm.
Performance Comparable to V8 Range Rover
Land Rover has assured the buyers that the electric Range Rover's performance will mirror that of its V8-engine counterparts. With a power output similar to the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that’s found in the SV variant, boasting of 615 PS of power and 750 Nm of torque, the EV is expected to deliver a thrilling 0-100 kmph run in just 4.6 seconds. Multiple battery pack options are also anticipated, and a four-wheel drive will likely be standard.
Features and Technology
The electric Range Rover is not just about performance; it also packs a range of features. With a water wading capacity of 850 mm at 50 kmph, the SUV is equipped with over-the-air (OTA) software updates, range-extending technology, and an 800 V architecture for ultra-fast charging compatibility. This places it in the league of other high-performance electric vehicles like the Porsche Taycan and Kia EV6.
Built on Jaguar Land Rover's flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture platform, the electric Range Rover shares its foundation with the mild and plug-in hybrid versions of the iconic SUV. Rigorous testing is currently underway, subjecting the prototype to extreme conditions ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius.
To Debut
While Land Rover has not disclosed the exact debut date, the electric Range Rover is expected to be unveiled in the coming year. Considering the popularity of the Range Rover in India, the electric variant is likely to follow soon after its global debut. However, deliveries are projected to commence no earlier than 2025. Once launched, it will compete with rivals such as the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-Tron, and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
As the automotive industry evolves towards electrification, Land Rover's rush into the electric SUV market also signals a new era for the iconic Range Rover series. Prospective buyers can now join the official waitlist, eagerly anticipating the arrival of this groundbreaking electric luxury SUV.
