The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel-manual variant was tested for real-world fuel efficiency in both city and highway conditions. This SUV uses a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 182bhp and 420Nm of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle offers multiple drive modes, including Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom. All tests were conducted in the default Zap mode.
Key Highlights
- Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel-manual tested for real-world city and highway fuel efficiency
- City efficiency recorded at 11.12kmpl while highway efficiency reached 20.4kmpl
- Tests conducted with standard features active and realistic driving conditions
Test Conditions and Methodology
During the tests, the air conditioning was set to 22 degrees Celsius, and the fan operated at levels 3 to 4. Features such as idle start/stop, infotainment, and seat ventilation were used as they would be during typical daily driving. The city test took place over a 93.2km loop in Navi Mumbai. The route included standard urban traffic during the day, with outside temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius.
For the highway test, the XUV 7XO was driven on a 79.5km stretch of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The vehicle maintained speeds of up to 95kmph, and ambient temperatures were around 35 degrees Celsius. Both tests aimed to reflect realistic usage patterns for potential buyers.
Fuel Efficiency Results
In city conditions, the XUV 7XO diesel-manual returned a real-world fuel efficiency of 11.12kmpl. The onboard MID displayed a slightly higher figure of 11.9kmpl. On the highway, the SUV achieved 20.4kmpl, closely matching the MID reading of 19.9kmpl. These results show a significant difference between city and highway efficiency, highlighting the impact of driving conditions.
The tested vehicle weighs 1,850kg, which is typical for SUVs in this segment. Despite its weight, the XUV 7XO performed well, especially on the highway. The diesel-manual variant is suitable for long-distance travel, offering strong fuel efficiency on open roads. In urban environments, the mileage remains reasonable, though it may vary with traffic density and driving habits.
Performance and Suitability

The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel-manual balances performance and efficiency. Its 2.2-litre engine and manual gearbox provide adequate power for daily use and highway cruising. The multiple drive modes allow drivers to tailor the experience to their needs. For buyers who frequently travel long distances, this variant offers a compelling mix of fuel economy and capability.
