Powertrain and Performance Details
The E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ uses a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol straight-six engine that produces 449hp. An electric motor, integrated into the 9-speed automatic gearbox, adds up to 163hp. The combined output stands at 585hp and 750Nm in standard form. With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, output increases to 612hp when Race Start mode is activated.
This configuration allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 3.8 seconds. The top speed reaches 280kph. The car features a 21.2kWh usable battery, providing a claimed electric-only range of over 100km. The plug-in hybrid can operate on electric power alone at speeds up to 140kph. It supports 11kW AC charging. In international markets, an optional 60kW DC charger can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.
Chassis, Design, and Features
The E 53 receives AMG-specific chassis enhancements, including extra bracing at the front and rear axles. The front track is 11mm wider, and the adaptive suspension offers Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus settings. The braking system is optimized to work with the hybrid powertrain’s energy recuperation system.
Based on the current E-Class, the E 53 features AMG-specific design elements. These include an illuminated AMG grille, larger front air intakes, flared front wheel arches, and a ducktail spoiler. At the rear, the car sports a diffuser and circular quad exhausts. The AMG Dynamic Plus package adds performance cues such as red brake calipers and a microfibre-wrapped steering wheel.
Inside, the E 53 includes AMG sports seats, an AMG steering wheel, and model-specific trim. The dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.4-inch central touchscreen. The MBUX Superscreen, which adds a separate display for the front passenger, is available as an option in international markets.
Market Position and Launch Timeline
Mercedes-Benz will announce prices for the E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ on July 23. The previous-generation E 53 sedan was launched in India in 2021, followed by the E 53 Cabriolet. The new model marks the return of the E 53 sedan to Mercedes-AMG's India portfolio.
