In Global NCAP's voluntary crash testing, the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which was introduced to the Indian market this week, achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving a four-star rating for child passenger safety and a five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The Dzire is the first Maruti Suzuki car to receive such excellent safety ratings, indicating the brand's increased dedication to safety. This is a noteworthy accomplishment.
Enhanced Safety Features and Testing Protocols
Important safety features including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection are standard on the 2024 Maruti Dzire. It was put through a rigorous testing process using Global NCAP's extensive evaluation standards, which include pedestrian protection analysis, ESC, and frontal and side impact evaluations. Additionally necessary is a side pole impact evaluation for cars striving for top-tier ratings.
Structure and Integrity Performance
Maruti New Dzire approved for its capacity to sustain greater weight and stability. All sitting positions have three-point seat belts, and i-Size anchorages are standard. Full head protection was verified in the pole test, side impact tests showed complete protection for adult passengers, and frontal testing assessed the driver's chest protection as minimal.
Protection of Child Occupants The following were highlighted in the kid occupant safety evaluation:
The 18-month-old dummy was completely shielded.
The three-year-old dummy showed good head and chest protection, but a rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS) might increase neck safety. Complete safety for young passengers was proved by side impact testing.
Industry Perspective
"The new Dzire's five-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others we have tested," said David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation. This historic voluntary test result is gratefully welcomed by Global NCAP. We are certain that Maruti will work to maintain this high standard of safety performance across all of its model lines in the future. If they do, it will revolutionize car safety for Indian buyers.
Comparative Analysis: Old vs. New Dzire
A mediocre two-star grade for both adult and child occupant safety was given to the previous generation Dzire during testing in a prior Global NCAP project. It had a conventional ESC and just two frontal airbags. The body and footwell were deemed unstable by structural evaluations, and side impact testing revealed that adults' chest protection was inadequate. The earlier model was not eligible for pole testing because it lacked side head protection.
The previous Dzire had fewer safety measures for children, including no three-point seat belts for all sitting positions and contact with the car's interior as reported by child dummy tests.
The ground-breaking accomplishment of the 2024 Maruti Dzire highlights a significant change in Maruti Suzuki's approach to car safety, bringing it into compliance with international regulations and boosting customer confidence. The company's dedication to safety-focused technologies opens the door for increased safety throughout its vehicle portfolio, which is a positive development for the Indian automotive sector and its consumers, as the older model is scheduled to be phased out this year.
