Honda has postponed the global debut of its third-generation Amaze to December 2024, pushing back from the originally planned October launch. This delay shifts the release of Honda's only new model for India this year beyond the festive season. The upcoming Amaze will replace the current second-generation model, which has been in the market since 2018. The new Honda Amaze is expected to bring significant updates to the compact sedan segment, including fresh styling and interior enhancements.
Key points about the new Honda Amaze:
- Built on a modified version of the City and Elevate platform
- Shorter wheelbase to maintain sub-4-meter length
- Retains the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine (90hp, 110Nm)
- Available with 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission
- Petrol-only offering, as Honda has discontinued diesel engines in India
The third-generation Amaze is anticipated to feature a design inspired by larger Honda sedans sold globally, maintaining the brand's stylish approach. Inside, expect a refreshed cabin layout with a possibly larger, free-standing touchscreen similar to the Elevate. To optimize costs, the new Amaze may share interior components with other Honda models in India.
Honda has revised its production targets for the new Amaze, reducing the target from 56,000 to 40,000 units annually due to the general slowdown in sedan sales. The Amaze, which accounts for about 25% of Honda's total sales in India, will face strong competition from rivals like the Hyundai Aura and the soon-to-be-updated Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
The compact sedan market currently sees monthly sales of 23,000 to 24,000 units, with Maruti Suzuki dominating nearly 60% of the segment. As consumer preferences shift towards compact SUVs and hot hatchbacks, the new Amaze will need to work hard to maintain its position in the market.
