Okinawa Autotech from Haryana has surged ahead of Bengaluru-based Ola Electric in the race to become the number 1 electric two-wheeler brand in India.

Okinawa Autotech has retailed the most number of EV units at 9,309 E2W units. Whereas, Ola Electric managed to sell 9,225 E2W units in May 2022. These figures are as per data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
"Even after the recent fire accident cases, the electric two-wheeler maker Okinawa Autotech has beaten Ola Electric to take the top spot as the country's leading E2W brand."
In fact last year, the number of Okinawa electric two-wheeler units sold in May 2021 stood at just a meagre 217.

Okinawa is focusing on expanding its EV enterprise proactively, given the recent announcement of a major investment of about Rs 1,200 to 1,500 crores in the production of electric two-wheelers in a period of two years.Based on a report, Okinawa Autotech recently recalled 3,215 Praise Pro e-scooter units to solve its battery issues.
Moreover, a report states that in light of the recent explosions and fire accidents in E2W units, the government shall soon bring battery standards for electric vehicles (BIS norms) for electric two-wheelers, that gradually would be applicable in four-wheelers in a later phase.
The checklist for the new EV battery BIS norms ensures battery capacity, connectors, minimum cell quality, size, and specification.
