Tata Passenger Electric Vehicle has collaborated with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in a strategic partnership to transform India’s vehicle landscape. The collaboration has shed light on the revolutionary changes taking place in the EV charging infrastructure across the country.
Partnership for Progress
This partnership, between Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and HPCL, will be focusing on capitalization of HPL’s expanded fuel station network. This wide approach of HPCL, will help Tata to provide easily accessible and reliable charging facilities to over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs travelling and measuring Indian roads. Together, Tata and HPCL have planned to deploy charging stations specifically where the Tata EV owners visit frequently.
Apart from this, HPCL will be using the collected data from charger usage to improve the quality of customer experience. This will result in a better conducive environment and will influence many other buyers for EV adoption in India.
Encouraging EV Adoption
To make people aware of the importance of EV adoption, Tata Motors and HPCL will be introducing a user-friendly payment system. This payment system is expected to be processed through a co-branded RFID card. This initiative will help in making the charging process quick, timely and hasslefree.
Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, emphasised the significance of this collaboration by stating, “As the adoption of EVs increases, the availability of widespread and dependable charging infrastructure will play a crucial role in making EVs mainstream in India. This strategic partnership with HPCL emphasizes our dedication to advancing India’s EV ecosystem in which the growth of charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role,".

Ambitious Targets
HPCL is known for its extensive network of 21,500 fuel stations. And finally, it is planning to install 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024. HPCL has 3,050 stations currently operating with battery-swapping facilities. With such promising numbers, we can expect the company to reach the goal it has set for 2024.
Debashis Chakraverty, Chief General Manager of Retail Strategy & BD at HPCL, emphasised on the strategic synergy between HPCL's extensive reach and Tata Motors' dominant position in the Indian EV market. According to him this partnership will help in expanding the EV charging infrastructure in high-demand areas.
